Tips to get the very best Elizabeth City rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Booking in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Elizabeth City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Elizabeth City visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.
How to select the best vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to the best dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Luxury condo with river views, private parking, and steps from Pailin's Alley has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Elizabeth City rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Elizabeth City beach you long to visit, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
