Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Elizabeth City vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Elizabeth City area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Select vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Waterfront Beauty! Incredible Sunsets, Exotic Birds and Gorgeous Water Views! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Elizabeth City attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
